New to Marvel Rivals?

Five things to learn first. Skip the rest until you have these locked.

01

Learn the three roles before anything else.

Every match is 2-2-2: two Vanguards, two Duelists, two Strategists. Vanguards hold the frontline, Duelists do damage, Strategists heal and enable. Pick one role to focus on first; flexing four heroes you suck at is worse than maining one.

02

Start with the easy heroes.

Difficulty stars on every hero card aren't a vibe, they're literal. Captain America (Vanguard), The Punisher (Duelist), and Mantis (Strategist) all rate 1-2 stars and teach the fundamentals: peel, aim, pocket heals. Master one, then branch.

03

Read the team-up panel in champ select.

Marvel Rivals' signature mechanic. Specific hero pairs unlock new abilities (Hulk's gamma boost for Iron Man, Groot lifting Rocket onto his shoulders). When the panel lights up, your pick just got better. Plan around it, don't ignore it.

04

Don't lock instantly. Counter the lobby.

If they pick two flying duelists, you don't need to lock the Hulk you mained yesterday. Quick-swap to Iron Man or Hawkeye. Counter picking wins more games than mechanical skill at every rank under Diamond.

05

Ignore tier lists until Gold.

Below Gold, the meta is comp coordination, not hero choice. Anyone in S-tier becomes mid-tier in a five-stack of confused randos. Pick a hero you can play 70% of games on, learn one map, then start chasing the meta.

One per role. Easy mechanics, forgiving kits, will teach you what each role asks of you.
